I REFER to Bournemouth’s application to be a ‘Diamond Jubilee City’.

The only possible way Bournemouth could be chosen out of the places applying would be by being first out of the hat by the Queen.

Out of the list, at least eight already have a cathedral. If the Queen as head of the Church of England picks one on those grounds, this could be one way.

Alternatively the names submitted by the cabinet committee to be forwarded might well be two from each area of the UK, ie England, Scotland, Wales and NI – again this is highly unlikely to include Bournemouth.

Again, the Queen has lots of ties with Scotland. One assumes therefore given a free choice a Scottish town will be favourite.

She also likes holidays up there, especially cruises around the Western Isles. Just a thought.
