I REFER to recent articles and letters in the Echo about Borough of Poole’s green bin scheme.

I feel that the residents of Poole are being conned over this.

It seems incomprehensible that in these economic times the council is spending thousands on the purchase of these bins, which I for one do not want.

Rather than a wonderful ‘new scheme’ as we are being told, it is yet another way of bringing in an extra charge for something we should already be provided with.

These charges can or will be increased year on year once introduced.

Back in the 1980s, when the council swapped our galvanised bins for the plastic variety, it was stated that we could place garden refuse in them at no extra charge.

It seems we will be paying extra for a service that we were told until now was included in our council tax.

As far as I am concerned, this constitutes a change to the binding contract between service provider and the public without the latter being able to decline.

We shouldn’t have to pay twice.
