IT would be easy to be scathing about the plan to put a play area on the car park at Queen’s Park but rather I appeal to the common sense of the council on its decision.

First and foremost is the location of the course which is dangerously close to woods and of low level view. In this day and age it’s not acceptable.

Secondly is the fact that this car park is used by members of the golf club, dog walkers, the gun club, and many that just like to enjoy a walk in this lovely park and is frequently in full use.

I also believe the football pitch adjacent to this area to be unsuitable, for some of the reasons I have stated.

Plus the fact it is used on occasions for families to have a kick around and I have seen junior football training there, also where would they have the ‘Party in the Park’?

May I suggest that the area at the top of the hill adjacent to the car park by Fitness First (also I believe there is a school nearby) would be more acceptable and open for a play area, being much safer.

We use the park frequently to walk our dog. It is one of our favourite places, and a play area to encourage more families to use it is a lovely idea, but it must be thought through very carefully and common sense must prevail where it must allow for the fact that some children may use it unaccompanied by parents or guardians.

Gone are the good days when a ‘Parkie’ (park attendant) was always on hand to keep an eye out for anything untoward or for a child to go to if there was a problem.
