DR Simon Hill’s letter (Have Your Say, February 8) made interesting reading.
While I agree with most of what he wrote, there are one or two issues of hygiene in NHS hospitals that I have some concern over.
Why is there no monitoring of visitors to Poole Hospital as regards to hand gel hygiene?
In a recent visit I made to the hospital, only nine out of 68 people that entered the hospital actually used the hand gel. Surely this low percentage must be addressed Also is it still NHS policy to allow their staff to leave the hospital premises wearing their nurse’s uniform? This practice has been banned in Wales for hygiene reasons.
Dr Simon, as you are the consultant microbiologist and director of infection control at Poole Hospital NHS Trust, can you give me and other members of the public reassurance that your hospital is as hygienic as it possibly can be?
