HAVING read the comments from Roger Jenkins of Moordown (January 31) appertaining to “what is happening our beautiful River Stour”, I can assure Mr Jenkins that both my ward colleague and myself have spent months if not years drawing various officers’ attention to the deterioration and erosion to the river banks and paths. I still hold correspondence from 2000 which also identified these issues, It was in December 2010 that the council commissioned a detail technical report from Mouchel that identified the works required to prevent further erosion of the banks and yes the current footpath.

In 2011 the two main overview panels met to consider the recommendation which covered the area from Muscliff to Iford Meadows, Tuckton.

In the case of Muscliff it gave support to my request for “urgent remedial works close to the existing board walk” where a safety fence has been installed.

We are hoping with identified funding that a start will be made this summer before we lose the path entirely. Can I add the residents of Throop and Muscliff have been kept informed by our regular newsletters?
