I WAS pleased to read the first part of Phil Eades’ letter ‘Call for hunting ban vote will be step backwards’ (Have Your Say, January 6). For me the very worst of hunting a fox with a pack of dogs is that human beings take pleasure in the terrorising and the killing. Their pleasure paramount – welfare of the animal non-existent.

The dozens of riders with the pack of dogs against one fox to my mind sums up the sheer thug bullying of English landowners through all the centuries.

Get out of my way, or stand up to us, and you will be despatched. However, as for Phil Eades’ contribution, is it not transparently clear this letter was far more about Phil Eades would-be MP than the plight of the fox?

His focus not the fox but the current MP who it seems opposes the ban on hunting. The letter a letter of political calculation and expediency: I want to be an MP, here’s an issue I can use. So what choice are we left with in Poole? A sitting MP who it seems is happy to support hunting and killing with dogs and a would-be MP who might support the hunting ban. But then Cllr Eades is a Lib Dem isn’t he? Recall the student fees “pledge” from this party? “We will scrap tuition fees for good”. I have not known a more critically far ranging policy pledge so shockingly broken in my life.
