I HEARTILY agree with Len Lewis’s comments, (letter January 5) regarding the pensioners who receive their Winter Fuel Payment now they live in Spain.
We are lucky enough to have a holiday home on the Costa Blanca and know of many ex-pats receiving the allowance saying “we’ve paid enough taxes when we were working, why shouldn't we get it?”.
I understand that if you qualified for the Winter Fuel Payment whilst living in the UK, you are still entitled to receive it if you move abroad, but I personally know of people living in Spain who did not qualify while in the UK, but now receive it because they kept a UK address.
I blame this government for allowing this to happen. A crackdown is seriously needed.
