I HAD to write to you after reading articles in the Echo and Advertiser regarding Fourways Day Centre.

I am a volunteer hosting a floral art class at Fourways once a week for the past seven years. While I fully agree that Fourways needs either re-building or perhaps re-locating to the Seaview Centre, I cannot agree with the way the very vulnerable services users are being treated.

I was present at the meeting held at Fourways in which Cllr Peter Adams told the services users what was happening, not asking their opinion and their needs. Cllr Elaine Atkinson states (Advertiser March 10): “We know exactly what they want, we know because we asked them”. What kind of message does this convey?

The reason many of the service users attend Fourways is because it has a heart. It gives them a place to spend time with like minded people to enjoy participating in activities such as my class.

Now we are told that only under 65s will go to Seaview. What happens to the over 65? Most of my group are over 65.

We have already lost some service users because they cannot afford the very high cost that has been levied at them. The very people who need a place like Fourways. In conclusion, I feel very sad that Poole Council has handled this very sensitive closure of Fourways in such an appalling way. Because, yes, Fourways is closing and some of the service users may get to the Seaview Centre.
