IN your article reporting the decision to allow the development application to go ahead at the site of the David Lloyd Leisure Centre, you quote Cllr Phil Stanley-Watts saying “I reluctantly decided to support the development because it has become derelict and run-down.”

Well, councillor, whose fault is that? This is not the first time that property has been acquired for development, then left to decay until planning becomes a formality, especially in situations when such a redevelopment attracts so many justifiable objections.

The facility could have, and should have remained operational until planning or a change of use had been granted.
