In response to Ruth Cooke’s letter (Echo, March 28), the alternative vote is exactly the remedy our democracy and our country needs. Turnout for young people has rapidly declined in recent years and the voting system is directly at fault.
AV will mean every voter gets listened to and every MP works harder to achieve 50 per cent support.
AV is simple to understand and coalitions are less likely (look at Canada and Australia).
May 5 is an historic opportunity for the ordinary voter to reinvigorate our democracy.
