HOW much more can we take? I opened our water supply bill to find that it has risen by 6.81 per cent. This is made up of 4.71 per cent for inflation plus 2.1 per cent on top.
Presumably, when Ofwat set this formula they were not anticipating such a high rate of inflation, but put no cap on it. This rise, along with recent even bigger rises from the other utility companies should keep the inflation rate high, so they will get another big rise next year.
Incidentally, the current issue of Time magazine states that new nuclear power stations are now not as necessary, because the price of natural gas has been plummeting.
Their words, not mine. Presumably for everyone except the poor British consumer.
