Following the letter regarding the Fourways Day Centre (Letters, March 21), I felt it was important that I reassure residents about the council’s commitment to day care services.

Borough of Poole is remodelling the Sea View Centre in Parkstone to provide day care services for adults with physical and learning disabilities.

This project will upgrade facilities at Sea View and improve access for wheelchairs.

A new entrance and reception area will be created and the building will offer more space for use by health, voluntary and community organisations.

The scheme will allow the council to bring together services from the nearby Fourways Centre on one site, providing a more efficient way of managing services and saving £146,000 a year in running costs.

Currently there are no plans for the future of the Fourways site. Once plans are prepared we will consult the community and voluntary sector.

Poole Disabled Club is a shining example of a voluntary organisation helping some of our most vulnerable residents.

We have written to all 13 organisations using Fourways giving them six months notice.

We are working with Poole Council for Voluntary Services to help them seek alternative venues, and the Sea View site would be the first to be considered.

This scheme demonstrates the council's clear commitment to day care services in Poole.

At a time when many other councils are having to review day care provision, we are seeking to invest almost £1.5million to modernise facilities and improve access for day care users.

By consolidating day care services on a single site, we will be able to offer much improved facilities to our residents.
