IN response to the letter from Mr Banks (March14) I would like to explain to him what Bournemouth council are doing about potholes.

Improving Bournemouth’s road network is a top priority and the council’s multi-million pound Road Rescue programme is underway across the town. Launched last year, the £2.9 million scheme has seen significant spending on repairing potholes, major structural and resurfacing works, and refreshing road markings across Bournemouth.

As part of the Road Rescue programme over 3,000 potholes have been repaired, and a number of resurfacing works have been undertaken – most recently the council-completed resurfacing of Alumhurst Road and Studland Road in Westbourne. Currently underway is the 15-week major resurfacing of the junction Charminster Road and Alma Road, and works will begin soon in Moordown, Northbourne, Winton and the town centre.

With the success of Road Rescue, a further £300,000 for structural repairs and re-surfacing, plus £150,000 pothole contingency fund was announced in February 2011 to continue the work to damage caused through the winter.
