I WOULD like to respond to the recent letters from councillors and the article in the Echo about the charity flower bed at the entrance to Poole Park which next year was going to display the five Olympic rings. This had been planned for some time.
However, the funding for planting this particular flower bed came out of the £5,000 budget for Poole in Bloom; the same budget that was completely removed by Poole’s Conservative administration. It would now seem they have cut this budget without any clear idea as to what it actually funded! It is somewhat disingenuous to start begging for somebody else to pay for Poole Park’s flowerbeds when you have just made the Poole in Bloom volunteers and their sponsors redundant.
Perhaps I might also add that it is rather thoughtless to accuse my Liberal Democrat colleagues of politicking when our job as opposition councillors is to effectively hold the administration to account.
