AS A lifelong monarchist, I never though the day would come when I would find myself coming round to the view that it is perhaps time to put an end to the whole Royal circus.

With the exception of the Queen herself, I have become sick and tired of the unsavoury antics of the majority of members of the House of Windsor.

The Queen has served the country faithfully and well, despite the efforts of many of her family to undermine her and destabilise the monarchy. But when the Queen goes it might be the right time to bring the institution to an end.

I’m not suggesting that a Republic would be perfect, but at least we would have the opportunity, every few years, to boot out a President who failed to come up to scratch.
