Not enough is known of the Alternative Voting system. One is led to believe that multiple votes are obligatory, eg. voting for your favoured candidates as first, second, third, fourth and fifth choice.

What is not understood is that the voter may make just one choice voting for the one candidate of his choice.

More publicity and understanding of the system would result in many making a single choice of candidate casting aside a second or third preference.

That would not be far removed from the First Past the Post system but still give the multiple option if required. It’s all a matter of clarity and education.
