IN response to Mr Hartley (“A good night’s sleep is all I ask for”, Letters, February 1): Could I ask if you have ever actually stayed in a guest house or B&B in or around Highcliffe?

I expect not. I can assure you can have breakfast at 7am if you wish with most B&Bs, one hour earlier than the Premier Inn you quote.

I know of no B&B around the area that has woodchip paper, none with dodgy TVs and all in fact are probably now flat screen. Showers are all walk-in and not A&E department possibilities as you quote. In fact perhaps I could take you to some that offer organic and grilled breakfasts, not the usual long-time stewing, deep fried and lukewarm you (sometimes) get at the larger groups.

Some B&Bs have wet rooms, luxury beds and do not quote, the impossible-to-find £29 constantly as on the Premier Inn's TV add.

Sir, with respect, you are living it appears in the 1970s.

With respect also, you probably have never run an accommodation business on the coast when tourist and business guest numbers can drop by up to 50 per cent for both hotels and B&Bs in the winter, not because they are tacky as you suggest.

As you, I have travelled the UK for many years on business in the past, and have always taken the trouble to sort the good from the bad where I stay.
