IT seems as if the Cameron / Clegg regime of getting the country out of recession are just bully-boy 'we will fix it at all costs' tactics.

Kenneth Clarke is right. We cannot imagine the misery we will be going through when these ridiculous proposals and measures come fully into play.

Perhaps the ominous 21-12-2012 Mayan calendar ‘the-end-of-the-world-is-nigh fears’ may just be us clawing our way out of recession, rather than a biblical and cataclysmic the end of the world as we know it.

This coalition are suffering from the same syndrome as lowly shop floor workers who have been elevated to foremen, throwing their weight around as a just-realised, power-crazy, knee-jerk reaction to the omnipotence their new jobs have given them.

But they have not been forward-thinking enough. Thursday's 'Have Your Say' letter detailing how the banks can be taxed and pay off the debts in one hit should be seriously considered: after all, they were the root cause of our catastrophe.

We have the Olympics in 2012, and some of it will take place in Weymouth. The country is 'finding' the money to build magnificent arenas to make us look good to a worldwide audience of trillions; but it will be an enormous flop as far as the natives are concerned, because we will be too hard-up to attend.
