I believe in work being given to any person who can demonstrate that they have the ability and experience to fill a job without age prejudice.
Currently I am one of the many aged over 60 looking for employment. My search started in October 2009 and although I have worked for two companies temporarily, permanent work seems to be a no no.
Financially, like most of the UK, I cannot afford not to work. The job centres are a waste of time and the employment agencies want you to register, but that’s as far as it goes. I am reminded of my age and politely told no permanent job would be offered to someone of my age.
What really annoys me, I am healthy and fit and have over 40 years accounts experience. Surely enough to get some kind of full time or part time role.
Older people should be able to continue working beyond 65. They can offer a great deal of know how and should not be an unemployment statistic.
