HAVING followed the Second reading of the European Union Bill – to amend Clause 18 to confirm that the United Kingdom should remain a sovereign state – I was dismayed to see the small number of MPs who were in attendance and the inane reasons they gave for opposing the amendment.

Mr Cameron did shuffle in at the end of the debate with other party leaders and their “sheep”, but of the 650 MPs, 313 and Mr Cameron opposed the amendment – 307 apparently do not care (who do they represent?) and only 39 wish to uphold the sovereignty of our country. What a shameful day!

At present, all three main parties are jeopardising our future and refusing to declare, or discuss, the true effect of their surreptitious abandonment of our inherited liberty and democratic birthright – our national sovereignty – against the overwhelming will of the electorate.

Now is the time for a full national unbiased debate on the cost of remaining in the EU. The promised referendum is now long overdue.
