I PRESUME that Dorset County Council has reduced the speed limit on the A3049 Dorset Way from 70mph to 50mph to protect traffic emerging from Oakdale Road and Adastral Road (Echo, January 18).
I found the Oakdale Road entrance particularly difficult because emerging from a slow approach road I was suddenly confronted with two lanes of traffic travelling at more than 70mph.
A far more effective way of protecting traffic would be to redesign the junctions so that the traffic emerging from the minor roads has priority.
This has been a huge success in East Sussex where traffic joining the A27 at the Beddingham roundabout has priority and in Wales where traffic joining the M4 at Langstone and at the Magor Services has priority.
