SO in these austere times our worthy councillors and chief executive go on a “jolly” to Darlington to see a few sheets of steel being welded together (“Poole is bridging the gap with twin sails”, Daily Echo January 19).
Just how much did that cost? As for the carbon footprint of 25 lorry loads of pieces being despatched by road from Darlington to Poole, has no one thought of using the railway?
Darlington was at the heart of the railway industry and I believe there is still some track in place at Poole station which could be used to transfer the load to vehicles for the short trip to the construction site.
As a council tax payer of several years’ standing, would the borough please arrange for my wife and I to visit the West Indies to view the tar which will be used on the approach roads? I'd like that.
