I THOUGHT, you, as readers of the Daily Echo, would like to read the letter I sent to the Prime Minister of this country and would like to know your opinion on this matter, especially those of the church leaders and union members.

To David Cameron PM, It has come to my attention that certain stores are intending to open on Boxing Day, which is a Bank Holiday and also a Sunday!

Do you, as Prime Minister of this country, think that this practice should be allowed to go ahead as it is unfair to shop workers who should be allowed at least two days off with their family at this festive time, as they work extremely hard prior to Christmas and will have to do so again after Christmas.

If you can arrange a Bank Holiday when Prince William gets married, then surely it is within your power, as Prime Minister, to order that shops remain closed on Boxing Day, even more so this year?

If these shops are allowed to open then this will reflect badly upon you and your government.

S STODDART, Shapland Avenue, Bear Cross, Bournemouth Delighted to see coffers overflow MY wife and I and presumably many others, were delighted to receive a certificate, headed “Hamworth in Bloom 2010” and signed by Councillors Chandler, Gregory, Wilkins and White, commemorating the award and thanking us for the effort put into maintaining our front garden.

A small simple garden, mostly covered with paving slabs, I hasten to add. Certainly not one that draws instant admiration from passers by.

How fortunate we are that in these times of severe financial restraint we live in the Borough of Poole where Council coffers overflow and where there is little or no need to spend frugally or wisely.

After all, should funds be at risk, remedies are readily available. Simply lay off a number of staff, increase car parking charges and council tax, thus enabling our councillors to can continue without restraint. I do have one constructive complaint, however.

Next time, why not a bronze plaque for our garden walls? Presumably the money can be found and they would indeed look most impressive.
