So Friday’s Echo tells us that we are to have another rash of ‘speed cushions’ introduced into our roads as ‘traffic calming measures’. Because so many of our roads are being violated in this way it is becoming an absolute misery to drive around Bournemouth.
Watch the drivers: as they approach the cushion they brake hard and then accelerate away often faster than before. All that has been achieved is discomfort to passengers, wear and tear on the car, irritation to the driver and more emissions into the atmosphere. The very worst are those recently introduced on Boscombe Overcliff Drive.
Road safety is very important but please use other methods to slow traffic but not by employing ever more portly ‘sleeping policemen’.
