I write in response to Atrial Fibrillation Friday (Have Your Say, November 24) Three weeks ago on I had a ischaemic stroke as a result of having AF. Fortunately ‘only’ my eyesight was affected.
I am a very fit 73-year-old man – a runner of over 27 years’ competing in road races at all distances, including marathons.
I am (or was) still running four to six miles twice a week.
I have no history of high blood pressure or cholesterol nor any other heart defects and was on aspirin since AF was diagnosed in September 2008, but I still had a stroke!
Anything that raises the awareness and monitoring of AF must be a step in the right direction.
