WHILE I applaud the hard work and dedication of the Council’s Street Cleansing Team in tackling the mountain of litter that is left strewn across the town centre most evenings, I can’t help thinking that this is to the detriment of the rest of the town.
For example, there are many streets off the main drag in Boscombe and Pokesdown where it is quite apparent that a Street Cleansing Operative has not been seen for some considerable period of time. What has happened to the mechanical sweepers that we used to see? How often are these roads inspected?
At a time when we hear so much about efficiency savings and cuts to frontline services, maybe resources could be better deployed or perhaps the £18million in council reserves tapped into to address this problem?
