I THINK Mr Walter rather misses the point in his letter about the bomber memorial (Have Your Say, September 22).
The memorial will be to the 55,000 men of Bomber Command who fought throughout the war to help stamp out the evil which was Nazi Germany, and died.
I seem to remember that “the indiscriminate and deliberate massacre of babies and children etc” started in the East End of London, Coventry and many other places in Britain.
As to not being a military target, has Mr Walter heard of the Baedeker raids on England? Targets were picked from a German guide book on England – Sherborne being one of them – a real military target!
Dresden was just one of the many terrible things that happened, but it was many years ago, and thinking was different then.
