IT is heartening to note the Ministry of Community Services and Local Government is proposing to restrict the number of signs displayed on our roads etc and I am writing to the Minister asking him to also include the placing of A boards on our highways The footways are part of the highway, according to the Highways Act 1980, Section 149.
Just as vehicles parked on footways offend the Highways Act, as an obstruction, so do A boards in their obstructing pedestrians, children’s prams, wheel chairs etc.
Just as superfluous road signs clutter our roads and junctions, so do advertisement boards and hoardings.
Advertising A boards are in the same category.
As the ministry implies, we must simplify the street scene to maintain Bournemouth’s ‘clear view’ presentation to our visitors and residents alike.
