Following on from the letter regarding litter in The Triangle area of Bournemouth (Have Your Say, July 12), why doesn’t Bournemouth council make it a condition of granting a licence to a takeaway food outlet that the holder of the licence is responsible for the litter on the pavement outside his premises and within a certain area?
The licence should also include a condition that the premises employ litter pickers to go onto the street and pick up the litter.
I don’t know if they do it in this area but when I worked in London a national takeaway franchise did this and it made a tremendous difference to the state of the road and pavement.
These takeaways give out packaging that is discarded by their customers. Why shouldn’t they be made responsible for it?
