THE government’s dash for wind power is being driven by the EU Climate Change Directive, under which the UK must generate 15 per cent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020.

Because wind farms are not profitable on their own merits, their developers are given a large subsidy, so it’s not a level playing field with other forms of green energy.

One area earmarked for development is the West Wight Zone where Dutch firm Eneco have been given licence to build up to 180 wind turbines in the sea (Daily Echo, June 17).

Each turbine could be 500 feet tall (that’s three times the height of Nelson’s Column).

These turbines will be highly visible from Poole Bay, Durlston Head and the internationally protected Jurassic Coast of the Isle of Purbeck.

This project must be stopped.

The Lib Dem, Conservative and Labour parties are all in thrall to the EU and its anti-carbon agenda. Only UKIP says no to wind turbines off the Dorset coast and yes to a national energy plan, treating all alternative energy sources equally, with proper consideration given to all their environmental impact.
