I believe many thousands of Echo readers will be totally appalled to read the front page of Saturdays Echo (Councillors squabble over reception invitation, Daily Echo, June 26) It seems that some councillors continue to forget what their elected role is.
And in some cases it goes to their heads.
Our role is not to get involved in taking over the work put in by our democratic team, who have done a magnificent job over the past twelve mouths working up the programme for granting freedom rights to The Rifles.
Member were given a full explanation by email as to why invitations to councillors’ family members were simply going to be impossible.
With The Rifles contingent numbering some 200, comprising regular soldiers, cadets and old comrades, the capacity of the venue just could not take the additional numbers.
This great day has to be focussed around the regiment.
Sadly, some councillors still continue with endless emails on the subject.
Is it any wonder why there is such discontent over councillors’ behaviour?
Cllr Ron Whittaker, Glenmeadows Drive, Kinson
