With reference to Cllr Stephen MacLoughlin’s letter (Have Your Say, June 16), The regeneration of Boscombe, based around the Boscombe Spa Project area, for which he is quoting increased visitor and reduced antisocial visitor figures, at present stops halfway up Sea Road.

There has been very little Council investment in the centre of Boscombe or to the north of Christchurch Road.

The creation of a ‘service hub’ serving people with alcohol, drug and family problems is the last thing Boscombe needs, especially on the same site as the minimal community activity the council intends to allow.

As Cllr MacLoughlin well knows, having been invited to some very well-attended BCCA meetings, but chooses to ignore, there are far more than “a small group of individuals” who want to retain this community facility, and it would do far more for the economy than 100 commuting office staff.

Boscombe has one of the oldest and most vibrant communities in the borough, and if the council had spent on it half the money it has wasted on the overspend at Boscombe Spa, including the surf reef, many of the social problems of the area would be decreased.
