My elderly mother was, until very recently, a resident of Kingland House. Like many elderly people, she found having to give up her independence and home a very traumatic experience.
We chose Kingland house for mum because the residents are encouraged to partake in activities. As many elderly have also been forced to give up their pets, Kingland House bring in a variety of animals to interact with the elderly.
I regard your article about the penguins and monkeys as extremely negative and one-sided. Most found seeing these exotic creatures very enjoyable and stimulating.
The care home manager booked the animal show because she, quite rightly, knew the residents would enjoy the experience.
These elderly people enjoyed their day and had something to talk about for days.
I applaud Kingland house for organising this day and only wish the vociferous animal rights lobby would be less dogmatic and respect the elderly as much as they do animals.
