It is with utmost regret and concern I find myself reporting that my efforts to generate fair transparency into Town Centre Master Vision decision-making has been staunchly refused by the Tories on Bournemouth council.

My sensible request to allow all councillors a place on the vision board, and the subsequent amendment by Cllr Anne Rey, were both rejected. I am pleased to report that the Lib Dems, Labour Party and Independents jointly supported more openness and involvement. This board currently consists of four cabinet members who make recommendations to, bizarrely, the cabinet.

The flimsy reason given for rejecting openness appeared to be a lack of faith in other councillors. Well, many of us don’t trust you! What is most worrying is we have the Tory administration earmarking 16 town centre car parks for controversial developments and ruthlessly voting to prevent unconvinced councillors from having more involvement. That same night the Tories ruled against allowing councillors a free vote on community issues.

This is a very frightening situation and I will make a formal complaint to the Local Government Ombudsman, in the hope that intervention can prevent this dangerous administration from leaving irreversible damage to our beautiful town.
