Why are people interfering with sea horses in Studland Bay (Daily Echo, June 1)?

The Seahorse Trust, in their own literature, claim that seahorse numbers are on the increase, and with no help from anyone their numbers have been increasing for many years – at the same time that recreational sailing has also increased.

Seahorses can be found in many areas in the UK so the claims of a unique habitat are to some extent untrue.

Too many times in recent history well meaning ill-informed people have had nothing but good intensions and ended up destroying the thing that they felt well equipped to help.

This is starting to have the same feel of good but uninformed people making unfounded statements with no real scientific evidence to back them up but enough media interest to sway ‘feel good’ public opinion.
