I noticed in your paper that Cllr John Beesley will not be asked to stand down as planning board chair (Daily Echo, April 29).

I cannot agree with this. I shall not be asking but demanding this happens.

I would think that the situation in Bournemouth is worse than in Poole: Cllr Beesley is not only the driving force behind the selling off of 16 town centre car parks, under the banner of the Town Centre Master Vision, he is the cabinet member for resources, deputy leader and chair of the planning board.

Whether it is legal or not is not the point; the overiding issue is public perception.

I think, as do many residents, that this is too many hats for one councillor.

To say that there is no option is insulting to some other very well qualified Tory councillors.

The idea that he takes advice regarding any possible conflict of interest is, in my opinion, also wrong.

Only Cllr Beesley knows whether any application brought in front of the planning board is one where he should declare a personal or prejudicial interest. He is the only person who fully understands all his various business interests.
