Mr and Mrs Alison’s letter addresses issues in Upper Parkstone that have been raised many times, over many years.

On the matter of no Christmas lights year after year, this is a damning indictment of the failure of all ward councillors for Ashley Road.

On the matter of the local secondary school, Poole leaders are fully committed to a two-tier selection apartheid system – one of only 11 councils in the country.

It is a case of excellence and no expense spared for pet grammar schools (£3.6 million development for Poole Grammar this year) while other schools are left to founder. Academy status does mean, I believe, that council policies have chronically failed and government and sponsors have had to take over.

And the political party working men’s clubs in Ashley Road?

Clearly a matter of personal choice but a dozen or more members smoking outside, during the day, hardly does credit to the name plates of parties claiming to be getting Britain back to work!
