I am writing on behalf of the Meningitis Research Foundation to thank everyone from the South West who participated in Meningitis in Babies Awareness Week on September 21-27.

During the week we’ve been raising awareness of the symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia among parents and carers of babies less than one year old.

Babies in the UK are 38 times more susceptible to meningitis than older children and adults, and it can be more difficult to spot the symptoms in babies as they can’t tell you what’s wrong with them.

You may have seen Meningitis Research Foundation members in your local media describing their experiences with the disease and asking everyone to be aware of the symptoms of meningitis.

We’d urge you to take their advice and get free symptoms information by calling our freefone 24-hour helpline – 080 8800 3344 – or visiting meningitis.org Harpinder A Collacott, head of communications and campaigns, Meningitis Research Foundation
