REGARDING traffic in Stourbank Road (Christchurch residents frustrated by speed problems, Daily Echo, September 15) as a resident of this road for more than 17 years, I and others are sick and tired of the continual carping about Parking and speeding in our road.

People choose to buy their homes and are fully aware that their properties are on a public highway. It is only after they move in or buy a car that it becomes a problem.

There is just as much of a problem parking in the evenings when friends are visiting or people calling.

Several times I have returned home after 10pm and have had to park and walk to my home. It is a public highway, this is what happens.

About speeding youngsters – several years ago my dog was knocked down. Was it by a speeding youngster? No, it happened in the evening and it was by a mature male driver.

On two separate occasions the above issue has come up and on both occasions the council has quite fairly given everyone the choice of what they require.

On both occasions there was an amount of coercion from people who have the luxury of remaining home all day and do not have to work full time.

There are people living in Stourbank Road who live in harmony with the school on this particular subject.

Parking is a national problem, speeding is a national problem, and to my knowledge my dog as been the only casualty (she is fine by the way).

I have a letter from the Council stating that as they have duly considered the Stourbank Road situated on two separate occasions and they are not prepared to re-open this particular issue. I presume they will not renege on this promise.
