I AM writing with concern over the condition of the road signs within Dorset.

Recently my partner was driving from our house in Bournemouth to Verwood to visit friends.

She has a small car and was travelling with our friend’s dog.

On the way up to Verwood she misread a sign due to poor visibility and careered off the road, narrowly missing trees and posts.

My partner is a great driver and managed to escape without serious injury to herself or the dog she was with.

Luck was on her side on that day, but the next time this happens, there may be no such luck and someone might get seriously injured.

The filthy signs are a great worry to me, but what worries me more is the response I had from the council when I contacted them.

I was informed that there is no regular cleaning of the road signs throughout Dorset.

There is also no schedule for checking the signs’ cleanliness.

The only time a sign will be cleaned is if a complaint is received, then the maintenance team will review the sign in question and clean if deemed necessary.

It is outrageous how these signs have been left to deteriorate in this manner and even more infuriating to know that nothing will be done to improve the situation and the safety of the drivers in Dorset.
