I write in reply to the “Gym Won’t Fix it” letter of last week and the Colin Henderson letter on Tuesday, May 5, regarding the lack, in Branksome, of outdoor gyms and other facilities, creating a town divide.

I can advise the readers it’s only because of positive action by the Friends of Poole Park that the town park has had these new facilities. We created the plans for the fitness trail some four or five years ago with specialised assistance from the Green Gym Company.

The Friends charity has raised some £80,000 over the last eight years, all spent in the park on the play area, fountain, bike racks, fountain, wi-fi etc.

So the success of the outdoor gym could be replicated in Branksome Recreation Ground with some constructive action in liaising with the council leisure services.

But sadly, some people just like to moan, fuelled by political sniping. It’s hard work and determination that succeeds.

Poole Park is used by many with little or no garden from the close vicinity. Most Branksome residents are more fortunate enough to have larger gardens.
