Further to Fiona Dougherty-Price’s letter (Letters, May 4) concerning plans to regenerate the Triangle as part of the Town Centre Master Vision, she is well wide of the mark in suggesting that Bournemouth council is favouring one group over another.

Yes, the Triangle has a long-established gay community, but the area has attractions for everyone including the central library, the new Tesco Express and the family play area, under construction.

Like Fiona, I don’t care for political correctness when it means the promotion of the interests of one particular group over another. Instead, I believe in fair and equal treatment of people, regardless of their “race, religion or creed” (or sexual orientation, age, disability or gender). That is why I was pleased that the council met the next level in the national ‘Equality and Diversity’ standard last week. For me, this achievement is an expression of our town’s traditional values of tolerance, courtesy and respect for people. It is these values which should underpin the regeneration plans for the Triangle.
