With regard to the proposed travellers’ site, I recently attended the drop-in at the Littledown Centre for what was described as a consultation, which in fact turned out to be a fait accompli.
When asked if the council has started the process to look for a future site following the guaranteed 12-month tenure of the Riverside Avenue site, it was obvious such thought has been given to finding another site.
The economic downturn means that Troika Developments may not develop the site in the near future and that it may remain un-developed much longer than the two years they predict.
As the council would be unwilling to face start-up costs for new sites every year, we can be certain that this site is intended to be used for much longer than the supposed 12-month guarantee.
Finally, for the first time in many years the farmer has ploughed this field, apart from the area set aside for the site.
Does the farmer know what everyone else suspects? When is the council going to be honest with the electorate?
