BEFORE supermarkets criticise the public for eating and drinking their products before payment (Daily Echo, February 28), which I do not condone in any way, my wife and I have had numerous occasions when we have been charged more for our goods than the shelf price.

My wife remembers every price and checks every item before leaving the store, and we have had to get money back in most major retailers.

Principally it is when they finish a special offer, they change it on the computer but fail to change the price on the shelf – you would be amazed how many times we are overcharged.

Supermarkets must make thousands like this. If the price ticket is wrong for just one day, it makes up many times over for half a can of coke found behind a shelf.

They usually put it down to human error but we have only had one occasion when the price is round the other way, so they can get it right when they want to!
