The FSP report on Bournemouth town centre (Daily Echo, February 27) is correct in one respect – Bournemouth does not do enough to encourage day trippers to visit the town centre after leaving the beach.

We take a perverse delight in having the most crowded beach in the country in the summer, but most people park overlooking the front.

At the end of the day, they get back in their cars and drive away leaving piles of rubbish on the beach but no money in the town.

We need to sell off all sea front car parks for development and force visitors to park behind the town centre so they have to pass the retail frontages.

For our part, we have an obligation to keep the town centre open for business on summer evenings.

We need to create a diverse, family friendly evening economy, rather than handing the streets over to binge drinkers.

Westover Road is the lynch pin between the sea front and the town centre and we welcome the chance to work closely with the council and developers to regenerate the area.
