HOW sad to see read that Conor Burns, Bournemouth’s Conservative MP, is standing by law-breaking Boris Johnson in the light of partygate, while other local Conservative MPs you name are ‘unavailable’ for comment.
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole were hit especially hard by Covid, with our higher proportion of residents living here, the elderly and the vulnerable, isolated from their families during lockdown, too many, sadly, passing away without the comfort of those who loved and cared for them.
These Tories demonstrate a total failure to appreciate the feelings of so many here, and not just about the partying, and the lies told in parliament, and the contempt shown to those who stuck to the rules for the sake of everyone. It is one law for them, another for the rest of us, not just on Covid rules, but everything.
Johnson and Sunak retain their tax avoidance schemes for the wealthy, while hiking taxes and cutting benefits for those who can least afford it.
They enjoy their lifestyles with their friends, while failing to deal with soaring energy costs, and the rising costs of living, while people here are struggling, our food banks are facing ever increasing numbers in real need, and the homeless are back on our streets and in shop doorways.
In other parts of England, the coming local elections will provide the chance to register exactly what we think of this government.
Here, we will need to wait until May next year for our own local elections, but Mr Burns and the local Tories can rest assured, the anger at this government will not go away.
