AT long last, somebody has had the courage to put their head above the parapet.

I refer to Boris Johnson saying: “I think it’s about time we stopped our cringing embarrassment about our history, about our traditions, and we stop this general fight of self- recrimination and witness.”

He is of course referring to the news that only orchestral versions of Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia will be played at this year’s Last Night of the Proms.

One can but hope this will be the start of a revolution against the destroying of statues changing road names etc.

For too long the BBC in particular and many large companies and corporations have gone down the route of political correctness and taken this to the extreme, they have been allowed to do so because the silent majority just want to get on with their lives.

I could go on forever in this vein, but I’d like to finish by saying let’s have more of this, Boris. It’s about time the silent majority were given a lead from the top.
