COUNCILLOR Andy Hadley of BCP has come in for a lot of criticism lately, with regard to roads that have been blocked off and the creation of cycle lanes at the expense of roads used by vehicles.

He says the council have had to rush through a lot of the schemes in order to claim money provided by central government. This is a poor excuse for many of the changes and schemes BCP has introduced.

Surely the skill for councillor Hadley and his officers at BCP are to bring about proposals for changes that are of benefit to cyclists and pedestrians, but at the same time do not impinge on other road users.

It is obvious that any roads that are closed off will automatically push traffic onto other roads and cause congestion, in order to counter this, you would have to have hundreds, or even thousands more cyclists and pedestrians and this is simply not going to happen.
