ON THE morning after the referendum I arrived at Kingston Lacy for a day visit to find a new guide for the garden in the size of a passport and with a maroon cover with gold writing.

(I jokingly remarked that this was a Kingston Lacy passport now we were out of the EU.) I actually found during my visit that there is a new children’s version of the quiz book.

This has a brown cover with gold writing with the word ‘passport’ (which is about the size of a passport), all the features are printed in a variety of colours.

It consists of an area inside to put a passport photo, name, age, a map of the gardens, pictures of sculptures, pictures of landmarks, tortoises, leaves, symbols on the obelisk all for children to find on the estate.

There is a grassed area in the kitchen garden with gazebos, tables, chairs where children and parents have the opportunities to enjoy crafts with the carpenters who make tortoises, toadstools out of wood which the children can colour in with felt pens, which usually takes place on a Tuesday.

In the kitchen garden there are pedal tractors for the children and various animals. The woodland walk has play trails with tree trunks to climb in and things to swing on. So if the children get bored there is plenty to do.

The adults have the house to visit, cafe, various gardens, sunk garden and Japanese garden.

There is something for everyone.
