WHAT a fantastic reconstruction of Corfe Castle by Ciprian Selegean.

Cromwell’s cannons obliterated Winchester Castle and the history buff in me wishes that I could have seen that undamaged, too.

But what symbols of Norman feudal power they were.

Their destruction was part of a process of giving power to the people that took centuries to bring about – ending in 1928 when all women got the vote.

Our democracy is far from perfect, but we should ‘fight’ to preserve and improve it.

We have the means in June via the ballot box – as our ancestors threw off the yoke of feudal power imposed by Europe in 1066, so we should throw off the undemocratic European Commission.
